“I have known Joel since his college baseball career at Jacksonville State University. As a college softball coach at JSU, I was always impressed with him as a player and a person. Anytime I wanted to use a positive example with my team, I would use Joel. I wanted our players to have his attributes.
His work ethic and self discipline as a young man was incredible. He worked twice as hard as his peers. His unbelievable passion for the game showed through his work ethic and play on the field.
Joel has always given back to the game and tried to pass his love and passion on to young people. Aside from these intangibles that have always been impressive, Joel has always had a high standard for his character and morals. He leads by example. He is and will be a great role model and teacher for our young people.”

"Joel Rivera was a middle infielder for us at Southern Union State Community College in 1996-97. He quickly became a team leader. Joel was valuable to our team as a hitter and fielder and was a member of our state championship team. Because of Joel’s excellent knowledge of infield play and hitting mechanics, he was like having an extra coach. Over the past few years, we’ve seen his teams play during the summer and his players are consistently well-coached, well-disciplined and know how the play the game. I’ve known Joel for many years and he is truly a man who is trustworthy and hard-working. He is also very intelligent and made Academic All-American while at Southern Union. I would consider Joel’s character to be of the utmost quality. He has a genuine love for the game of baseball and a passion to teach young men."
